Mental Health in the Black/African American Community

There has long been a stigma attached to the idea of therapy and seeking help for improved mental health in the black community. I personally have experienced the labels that goes along with the mental health discussion among those of African descent. Phrases like, "I don't need to see a therapist, I'm not crazy!" and "No therapists needed here, I'll just take it to God in prayer" are often heard.

Thank you for visiting Reflections with Jay. This blog will run the gamut. Topics from mental health, relationships (both familial and romantic), to my personal feelings/views on current, past and/or future events will be discussed. My personal thoughts on various subjects as well as every day occurrences will be shared, but subscribers are strongly encouraged to post questions and/or leave comments (anonymously if you prefer) on a number of subjects that will be discussed. From issues at home with family members or a significant other to interpersonal problems with close friends or coworkers.
